Week 7 Review

This week was about refining your search, not expanding it endlessly.

You learned how to:

  • understand where different foundations sit within the funding landscape,
  • quickly evaluate whether a foundation is worth further attention,
  • and use tools like foundation websites and Grantmakers.io to make informed decisions before investing time.

At this stage, speed and selectivity matter more than volume.

What You Should Have Accomplished

By now, you should have:

  • reviewed multiple foundations using Grantli’s State Resources page and/or Grantmakers.io,
  • eliminated funders that are clearly not a fit,
  • and created a short, realistic list of potential funders.

For most organizations, that list will be 2–7 foundations with:

  • current or upcoming opportunities, or
  • no current funding opportunity, but a clear rationale for future relationship-building.

Each viable funder should have a completed Funder Profile Form.

How to Know You’re on Track

You’re ready to move forward if:

  • you can explain why each funder on your list is a fit,
  • you understand whether they accept unsolicited inquiries,
  • and you feel confident deciding when to move on quickly.
